As with any information from Bullroarer, this is beta and prices, appearances and store content may change by the time Rise of Isengard is released.
It looks as if the LOTRO Store will be getting an update to its user interface when RoI launches later this month. Here are a few highlights from my most recent beta shopping spree. (Sadly, the Turbine Points totals shown in these screenshots are from my beta account and I don’t have anywhere near that number on live. *sigh*)
To start with, we have a general update to the look of the Store home page. The artwork is toned down a bit. Ads, while actually larger, are positioned so they seem less intrusive. Overall, I like the changes to the home page.

Changes have been made to how things are added to your cart. There are now two buttons beside the point cost of an item. One gives you the option to "Quick Buy" and the other adds the item to your cart. If you choose to use Quick Buy, a pop up asks you to confirm your purchase, and gives you an option to apply a coupon code if you have one. Upon clicking the "place order" button, the purchase is completed without taking you away from the page where you were shopping.
If you choose to add an item to your cart, no more are you forced to visit your cart to confirm that the item has been added. Currently, if you decide to buy an item, you are immediately taken to your shopping cart, regardless of whether you were done actually shopping. While only a minor hassle, it was still a little annoying if you were planning on getting multiple things from the same category. Now, when you click the button to add an item to your cart, you’ll get a notice beneath the button saying the item has been added to your cart.
The shopping cart itself hasn’t changed a whole lot. The look has been updated like the rest of the store. The biggest difference I noticed was that instead of taking you to a confirmation screen after clicking "Place Order", the order was immediately placed and purchases were applied to my account and/or added to my inventory.
Another minor annoyance that has been addressed is the functionality of the "Back" button. Have you ever been browsing cosmetics and decide you want to try it on and then after you’ve looked at the item, you click the back button to go on browsing only to find that instead of taking you to the page you were just on, it takes you back to the beginning of the category? I don’t know about you, but that doesn’t take long to get me annoyed. But good news! Now, the back button (or "Continue Shopping" button, if you’re looking at your shopping cart) will actually take you back to the page you were last on! A novel concept, I know.
Sometimes, while browsing through a category, you want to see more than just four items at a time, right? Now you can do that, too. There’s a new button that will let you switch to list view while you shop. (Click on the picture for a larger view.)
While I was investigating these changes to the store, I looked high and low for new cosmetics. Sadly, I was unable to find any except for a few hooded versions of the skirmish barter cloaks for the Inn of the Forsaken. Cosmetic LOTRO already has a post about these cloaks, so head on over there if you’d like to check them out. I’m keeping my eyes open for new horses, too, but I haven’t had a lot of time to work on reputation in the new regions, so I suspect it will be a while after launch before I’m able to report on those. If anyone happens to know where I can find this horse that is currently on the launcher screen, please let me know!
Note from Goldenstar:
Today LOTRO also posted a “Discover the LOTRO Store” post that covers a lot of what Ketani searched for on her own. That article is also worth a read so go check it out!
