This episode we talk about the LOTRO Forum downtime. Without much else for LOTRO news we turn this into a community episode reading many of our emails!
This week Goldenstar didn’t do much in game this past week. She’s been sick and with our site issues has been busy! She did get to attend the great Fellowship Walk’s in-game concert which was great!
Merric has gotten his champion to level 58 and has entered Lothlorien. He has been working on his volume quests and unlocking the skirmishes in Moria.

Fellowship Walk Update
We had a fantastic party today thank you very much to the Lonely Mountain Band for hosting it!
Merric collected the names of our party attendees so we will be selecting the winners for Ghingerel’s album giveaways soon and will be contacting the winners via in game mail (I’ll also put up post just in case you aren’t a Landroval native).
Special shout out to Belarieth who offered to match all donations up to $100 during the party! She had to pony up the full $100 thanks to donators!
We are currently sitting at $4,124.11 in donations and have made it to Bilbo’s Trolls! We are only 2 goals away from Rivendell! There is only one more full week of collecting so if you haven’t donated yet, please do consider doing so! Any amount is accepted and each little bit helps!

I’ve downloaded every podcast you have at iTunes and I’m listening through them and enjoying everything I understand. I do have questions.
1: I joined as a VIP member after only about a week because I fell in love with LOTRO. I saw that there was a boxed version of the game with the Moria & Angmar expansions among other nifty stuff, and I bought it so I could install it on my laptop. My question is, if I install it there and log in from there, will all those expansions transfer to my desktop automatically?
2: I don’t understand a lot of the LOTRO-speech you’ve all developed so maybe once during each podcast you can explain one piece of lingo to the newbies. I’ve been playing for about 3 weeks since it took me 4 days to get it all downloaded and running then it went down when they put in the Isengard update. Anyway, I still don’t understand a lot of what you are all saying. My first character is a Hunter. I’ve gotten him up to level 34 and it’s been like pulling teeth (unless some kind people join me in an expedition to gain points more quickly. Maybe if I understood what you’re talking about, I would make better choices. It took me 2 weeks to realize there were little buttons the bards had to place in order for me to get some of my skills, like Sylvan Shadows, to work.
One last thing. I was very tired last night after several outings after high-level baddies with some allies and I ended up in Northcotton farm. In about 2 hours I went from 32 to 33 level just running around doing stupid little chores. It was the fastest I’ve gone up a level ever. You might want to share that. I got the quest from the Mathom society sending me up to speak to someone in Oatbarton, and he sent me to Northcotton farm, and I searched for it all over the place, since they said it was “north” of town, when actually it was east of town. But once I got in, it was a really fast way to get xp.
Thank you for the show. It’s really nice to hear your take on this wonderful world of LOTRO.
So, one of my alts in Lotro is a Minstrel. He’s not my main, and while I enjoy playing him, I think it somewhat absurb that a dude is running around in a combat zone strumming his guitar. And then I saw MSNBC’s Week in Pictures for this week (Oct 6-13): http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/44890332/ns/news/displaymode/1247/?beginSlide=1#.TpjazLJgnjI. Notice picture six.
Angollos – Dwarrowdelf Minstrel
Glad you got the site cleaned up! I was worried about you.
I had a quick question, but with the forums down, I’m having trouble finding an answer and I was hoping Goldenstar could answer it:
Is there supposed to be a UI that shows minstrel’s active ballads? (Sort of like a warden’s gambit panel.) I thought Orion mentioned it, but I don’t see how to enable one.
I appreciate any info you can give, as well as all the work you guys put into the site and podcast!

Regarding Turbine (lotro) customer support.
Ive been in the game for a long time, have several capped out characters and do truly love the game and my kin (Numenorean Guard).
Recently our kin ran a raid skirmish in which a worn symbol of Celebrimbor dropped. I won our dkp bid and as i was about to get it, the instance kicked us out. once we were out of the instance, the leader attimpted to send it to me via master loot, but it stated that the item no longer existed.
i opened a ticket, was told that i couldnt be helped. submitted a suggestion/complaint straight to turbine to alter the time out function on raid skirmishes.
overall i was very upset at the rudeness and lack of care that the gm’s and customer support seemed to provide. I have heard of many people that were dissatisfied with them in the past.
Turbine needs to learn how to take care of their player (read: payer) base or come dec. 20th, they are in for a rude awakening. Gamers will only tolerate so much. there are too many games out there to deal with such short-sided imbeciles.
Hello both! (or everyone if you have guests – no facoritism on this side of the pond!). My playing partner has been levelling her minstrel and is now level 47. She has recently been giving me frequent (and progressively less gentle) hints that it might be time to start jumping off high places for her to rez me and spend 5 minutes running back to repeat the process for her to get her res trait completed.
Now being a man, I was born as are most with that genetic hearing bug that seems to kick in just at certain things said in a female voice and at a certain resonance(far be it for me to suggest whining or ordering….) and yes I do have numerous sizable bruises and abraisions that I wear with stoic pride as a part of the male of the species). Anyway, after about a fortnight of badgering, cajoaling and finally outrigh threats, I relented and applied a bit of though to the least time consuming and annoying way of dying and came up with the following. This is probably nothing new and is a bit level restricted but even so I remain rater proud of the admiration it gained me from certain quaters (and the beer!) What we did rather simply, was to putter over to Angmar and as we are rather slacking with our epic efforts, I ran into the line of statues stopping entry into Eastern Mallenhad. My bardic sadist promptly res’d me on the spot, pointed imperiously back at the death line and I put my head down and charged it again for queen and country. Doing this 15 times a night made getting the trait done in less than 10 minutes a time – plus a smidge of travelling and earned me a goodly ammount of brownie points and smugness in equal measure. Hope this proves useful to people and as we are now approaching the hell that is Moria, I’m off to lie down in a cool dark place and let my overused brain recover for a month or two before it’s ready for use again!! Keep up the good work

Ssenir/Drakgash of Crickhollow
Ssenir, Founder of Justified, and Drakgash, Minstrel-Munching Warg of the Crickhollow server here. Hello!
I’ll keep it short and sweet. First of all, your roundtable discussions are great, and I look forward to seeing updated versions of them for each class.
Now, with the Moors being made into F2P, and since there will now be a lot more people in the Moors, I would love to see some roundtable discussions for the creep classes! There are a lot of greenie creeps out there, who could definitely benefit from them.
Please and thank you. =)
Greetings Goldenstar and Merric (the order is intentional),
I am unsure as to whether you have read my previous message in which I introduce myself, but this time I come to you with a question. Ever since I have began playing LotRO, my home has been the server “Crickhollow”, but now I am deciding if said server should be my permanent home. I prefer not to switch between servers to access my alts, as that ruins the immersion for me. On Crickhollow I have 4 characters:
1. lvl 45 champion
2. lvl 31 hunter
3. lvl 27 guardian
4. lvl 14 burglar
Although I have played for over a year, I am a VERY casual player and have played almost exclusively solo. That explains my low character levels. But recently I have been wanting to start becoming a more frequent player, and experience some more of the group content; but this seems to be hard to do on my server. I have tried to find a kinship or a group of players who run instances on a regular basis, but to no avail. If i may use the acronyms, GB runs are difficult, but not impossible to get together, and usually take about 45-60 minutes to get together when I am looking in the right place. GA run are more difficult to find, and I usually have to wait for them to find me. And I have yet to find ANYONE to do an Annuminas run.
I enjoy grouping and I know how to play the champion pretty well, I enjoy a decent amount of role playing, I am not worried about losing my characters if I move to a different server, and I prefer a more mature community.
So here is my question: Should I migrate to a different server and if so which would you recommend? Should I stay at Crickhollow? Should I wait until a higher level to experience grouping content?
If it is not a bother, you can email me at my address or you can answer it live, as I will be listening live for the first time. I hope answering this is not too much of a bother and thank you for your time.
Hey Goldenstar and Merric (correct and polite) I too, as one of your other posters stated, received a 3 day ban for breaking the code. This was for intentionally using the ‘f word’ in tells. I’m not being funny but, this happens a lot, and everyone has game rage. If you get banned for doing something so trivial I might have to start reporting the people who deserve it – cos they’d get perma-banned.
Just need to vent to you guys cos you often share insight. Of course there is context to this. We were in moors when his raid were pulling npcs on us and challenging the tyrant in order to reset him. I think a stern ‘what the truck are you doing’ and ‘stop being a trucking idiot’ were justified. If only I had reported him all the times before (he’s the server jester).

Hello Merric and Goldenstar,
Love the podcast and the website!
I started a champion on Silverlode right after the free-to-play launch last year and fell in love with LOTRO. I played him for four months casually and got him to level 53. Then I got some other friends into the game and we all started fresh on Landroval to form a kinship together. Since Landroval is closed to in-bound character transfers my champion has languished in solitude for 8 months, only coming out to claim the occasional lottery winnings. He’s now sitting on a bunch of unused skirmish marks, legendary shards, relics, housing items, and anniversary coins. I fear his blades are rusting for lack of opportunities to SHING.
Now that the Isengard launch is behind us and the EU server changes have settled has there been any word on allowing character transfers to the big servers? My kinship is about to enter Moria and it would be the perfect time to bring in my champ.
