Store Location: Buffs & Boosts → Advancement → Skirmishes

CSTM RECOMMENDATION by Pineleaf: When you consider how many skirmishes I have completed, I’m not in the front of the line to get mark boosts. One of the members of my regular Wednesday group does use these consistently, so I know that some players find them useful. It all comes down to: are you willing to spend points to earn more marks? Remember that these only affect the marks earned within the skirmish (capturing control points, fending off counterattacks, saving defenders, and completing encounters). They do not help with other sources (barter, quest rewards, and deed rewards). These can also be purchased for destiny points if you are a VIP member.

CSTM RECOMMENDATION by Pineleaf: Obviously my general response for skirmishes is Thumbs up, but you could guess that I am a bit biased in favor of skirmishes.

Halls Of Night
Step into a dream state and be whisked into the Halls Of Night! The Hillmen of Angmar have discovered an ancient barrow hidden away for centuries. The leaders of Aughaire have called for adventurers willing to brave the tomb rumored to be filled with wealth and riches. The markings surrounding its entrance bear an ominous warning. Be prepared to face twisted creatures and slumbering warriors at the foot of a powerful sorcerer.

Inn Of The Forsaken
The Forsaken Inn is the last inn on the road to Eriador which runs into the distant Misty Mountains, and was possibly visited by Bilbo and his companions on their journey to Rivendell. It is in total disrepair, yet is considered a welcome sight in these lawless lands. Almost nothing is known about the Inn- if you can brave the wails and cries coming from the basement, you’re sure to uncover the dark secrets of this Lone-lands settlement.

Instance Cluster: Isengard

Gather your companions and battle in five dangerous areas deep within Isengard! The Isengard Instance Cluster includes Fangorn’s Edge (3-man), Pits of Isengard (3-man), Dargnakh Unleashed (3-man), The Foundry (6-man) and The Tower of Orthanc (12-man).

Store Location: Account → Quests & Content → Raids & Instances
Levels: Varies

CSTM RECOMMENDATION: These are fun instances and if you think you may have a chance to hop into a group or even a raid now and then, these are not bad choices!

Halls of Night and Inn of the Forsaken are free instances to VIP players so if you are VIP, you will not see those appear in the listing for you.

I still haven’t run all of the Isengard instances myself but the ones I have run have been enjoyable. If you enjoy running dungeons with friends, I suggest you pick this up!

+20% Monster and Quest XP (3 hrs)

Get more for your monsters with a 20% bonus to experience earned from killing monsters and completing quests! This effect will last for 3 hours. Single and 5-stacks available.

Store Location: Buffs & Boosts → Advancement → XP
Levels: All

CSTM RECOMMENDATION: These items are new with Rise of Isengard and give the added bonus of not just monster kill experience bonus but a bonus to quest experience as well. There’s no real reason to rush through LOTRO but if you are a bit stuck and could use a boost, this would be the item I’m more likely to recommend over the Enhanced XP Supply. 3 solid hours of +20% exp bonus to monsters and quests are probably going to net you more experience over just monster xp boost on your experience bar. It all depends on how you play though!

Milestone Skills

Set multiple instant-travel destinations! Unlock an additional destination skill to bind at Milestones. 5 additions available! Milestones, or "homes", are locations that you can instantly travel to from anywhere in the world. Players can bind to one destination at a time for free, and purchasing additional Milestone Skills allows players to access more than one destination at a moment’s notice!

Store Location: Travel & Housing → Maps & Skills → Milestone Skills
Levels: All

CSTM RECOMMENDATION: I have not purchased these and really haven’t seen a need to.  I can see how they would be desirable and do not fault anyone for buying them. Typically I hear that folks like to have two and past that it’s a bit excessive. One for where they are questing and one for where they craft.

I’d rate the milestone skills a bit higher. Go with 2 or 3. 1 where you quest, 1 for crafting and the last for the Isengard merchant camp that has no direct easy access.

  2. Ulrika Says:

Which of these skirmishes and instances are not part of any Quest Packs or Expansions? And of those, which ones are relatively easy to find groups for?

    • Elahedor Says:

The Isengard cluster is part of the Rise of Isengard expansion (if you buy the quest pack, you will have to buy Draigoch & the Isen cluster separately).

I believe that neither Halls of Night nor Forsaken Inn is part of any quest pack – they are sold as stand alone instances.

I’m not sure how the skirmishes work. I beleive that some are stand-alone purchases (Attach at Dawn & Icy Cravasse), while others are part of the various quest packs.

All of the Skirmishes are fairly popular these days, especially the Moria & Mirkwood skirms. They can be quick raids, with excellent loot drops (the gear can fill in gaps while you complete the Draigoch or Isen armour sets). The popularity has diminished a bit since they messed around with rewards and daily quests. Nonetheless, they are an easy way to get Marks and Medallions (and sometimes a symbol for a second ager).

On Vilya, where I play, Hall of Night are Inn of the Forsaken are rarely played in PuGs. Most people seem to have gotten the Dreamer title and emote, and rarely run HoN, even for medallions. IoF was broken for a long, long time, and I think most people just never got in the habit of running it.

The Isengard cluster is extremely popular right now, since it is the end-game content.

    • Tanner Says:

None of these are part of Quest Packs. As said above, the Isengard Cluster is of course part of the complete Expansion, but none of these comes with just a QP purchase.

As others said, none of these instances are included in quest packs.

Halls of Night and Inn of the Forsaken are stand alone instances. VIPs don’t pay for them but they are not included or bundled with any quest pack purchase and have to be bought separately.

Isengard instances can be purchased in the Isengard Expansion pack. However if you choose to buy Isengard piece by piece, it is not included with the quest pack. Everyone (even VIPs) have to buy Isengard content.

  3. Elahedor Says:

I have all 6 milestone skills on my main toon (a LM), and I think it was one of the best purchases I’ve ever made. I set 4 of them permanently to places where there is no “return to” port – Telain Galadhrim (Caras Galadhon, in Lothlorien), 21st Hall, Esteldin, and the Ox-Clan Camp (near Isengard0. I reserve one of the others for the current main quest hub, and use the last for festivals (especially if I have to go regularly to Hobbiton or Duillond). I just wish they had separate cooldowns, but I have the Hurried Traveler skill, which eases some of the pain.

In addition, I have almost all the available “return to” skills: Bree, Thorin’s Gate, Ost Garuth, Rivendell, Thangulhad (Mirkwood), Lhanuch (Enedwaith), Galtrev, and Stangard (the one I don’t have is the Return to Michel Delving, but my house is in The Shire, so I have a handy port there). The Hurried Traveler skill doesn’t apply to these skills.

I can pretty much jump any where at any time – or jump to a major stable hub to easily get where I need to go.

  4. Nickchanger Says:

can anybody confirm the discount for Isengard instance cluster? …I’d like to buy it but the store shows only the usual price 1495 TP…

  5. warreni Says:

Are the milestone skills per character or per account?

  6. Matthew Jobe Says:

I’m not seeing the code for the free sample. Is it an error on my side or is it not posted yet?
