Riders of Rohan Turbine Store Pricing

June 5, 2012

LOTRO News

Rohan_skirmish_soldier_SkinTurbine knows we all have questions as to what will and won’t end up in the LOTRO store from these new Riders of Rohan editions currently available for pre-order.

Celestrata to the rescue with answers which have been placed in the growing FAQ.

20. How much will Riders of Rohan be in the LOTRO Store? Can I buy parts of the expansion pack separately?

Yes, you can purchase portions of the expansion separately with your Turbine Points in the LOTRO Store. These items will be released in the LOTRO Store on the same day as the expansion, September 5th. The prices are as follows:

  • Rohan Expansion Content: 4295 TP
    • Expansion Content includes the quests in the Rohan region.
  • Rohirrim Skinned Soldier on Landscape: 295 TP
  • 6th Inventory Bag (Account-wide): 995 TP
  • Crystal of Remembrance: 995 TP
  • The Outriders Token: 495 TP

From the forums we also have some additional information on the Crystal of Remembrance:

The Crystal of Remembrance will add in an additional major legacy slot to your legendary item. You can override that slot with a legacy of your choice, of course, through the usual methods.
[source Celestrata on the forums]

Still no word if there are any instances or dungeons coming with Rohan and I know that is something many of you are asking about. The pricing says quests in the description but I wouldn’t lose hope until we get a definitive answer from Turbine. I suspect there’s a good bit of detail we won’t know until we see the dev diaries (or the open beta starts).

I won’t lose hope yet, as you say, but the price for that expansion content seems a bit on the low side.

The price for the bag is about what I expected. the price for the Crystal, though, seems high. (It is a 1-use item, yes?) Then again, I don’t generally buy things like that, so I don’t know how it compares to other consumables.

Sadly I was right about the 6th bag costing more than the other bags at 995 turbine points instead of the usual 495.

Apparently this sixth bag is as good as the previous two combined!

Yeah, I’m not especially happy about that either… Especially since it’s apparently not included whatsoever for VIPs, which I think is kind of bogus.

If it’s something that they’re marketing specifically as a pre-order perk, for them to later make it free for all VIPs would make me feel that they lied in their advertising. I have no problem with people being able to get the bag later, but for free when that was a big part of the reason I shelled out $70 right now to pre-order? That would be bogus indeed.

I don’t disagree, I guess I just don’t think this should have ever been part of the package in that sense.

        • Ulrika Says:

Actually, they’re not marketing it as a pre-order perk. You just get it if you buy the Legendary edition, and it doesn’t matter if it’s pre-order or not.

I hate the slow info-leaking period. But I can’t imagine a zone “twice the size of Moria” that doesn’t have at least one instance cluster in it. Although it could be that they aren’t talking about it because they’re doing instance-/raid-like things through the Mounted Combat/Warband system that aren’t exactly analogous to the instances and skirmishes and whatnot that are in the game already. Also, the FAQs definitely mention attacking enemy camps and things like that where we won’t be fighting from horseback, so I’d expect at least one traditional instance experience in one of those locations.

What’s weird is that they’d announce this and then not have these questions answered off the bat. These things seem like the Top 10 Things I’d Want To Know About Any Expansion… Yet we’re still waiting to see if there will even be raid content.

Just seems like a silly oversight that was easily avoidable.

No word yet, I guess, on the war horse quest chain and warhorse availability for those who don’t prepurchase at the 70 dollar level. All quests were supposed to be available for FTP, given enough grinding. I wonder if that is still true.

According to the lotro-wiki.com LOTRO Store page the Isengard full expansion pack(including the instance cluster, raid, and skirmish rank boost) is 4995TP, while the Isengard quest pack is 3250TP.

The RoR FAQ says the RoR, “Expansion Content,” which, “includes the quests in the Rohan region,” will be 4295TP.

Kinda hard to believe the full RoR expansion will be 700TP less than the full RoI expansion.

I agree with you, the breakdown pricing seems a bit low when compared to ROI. What do you want to bet there has been a mix up in words and the 4295TP is only the RoR QP sans skirms/raids/instances?

  6. Rinvan Says:

The TP cost for the the expansion is ok with me, I don’t really want any of the extras. I assume the beta is likely to start in July again.

My question is about the 49.99 priced pack; with Evendim, Lothlorien, and Moria quest packs. I already have all of those being a VIP, plus I bought the additional Moria packs. Or are these new quests that are added to those regions. If they are already existing packs then it seems a bit of a waste for a VIP to buy that one. Any one have any info on whether these are new quests in those regions?

They are the already existing packs. No new quests or content that is included through this package.

This sort of bundle is not uncommon and typically there is something else to entice VIPs to purchase. The Quest Pack offerings are however a good deal for those who want to buy Rohan and do not own these zones yet.

However, if you want Rohan but, don’t own those zones…. How are you even going to get to Rohan. I know you can physically walk there if you’ve killed enough pigs to hit the level cap but, what’s the point?

Just because someone purchases Rohan doesn’t mean the have to use it. The Isengard pre-order was a great way to get extra content for a single low price. This deal is not nearly as good but it is still a package of content with other extras for a single payment.

Wish they would say in what way RoR is bigger than moria. Geography or content?

For an altoholic the 6th bag at 995 is actually quite good compared to having to buy it per character. Certainly per character makes the legendary offer less attractive.

Everytime I look at the descriptions of the crystal it comes across as another bit of complexity being added into the LI system, but thankfully one you can opt out of by not paying for it. Random legacy is bad, they should at least give a choice which one you might want before having to replace it with a scrolled one at a potentially lower level.

At least they’re being more open about the store stuff prelaunch, RoI preorders that hit the store annoyed quite a few people I seem to recall.

‘Rolling plains’ I’m going to guess physical size, though could be wrong. They’re also in the middle of updating Moria with more quests to make leveling easier/better, so it leads me to believe that there should be a good number of quests in the new area (you have to make 10 levels after all) but since it is yet another ‘end game’ zone, I imagine the typical grinding is just standard by this point.

      • Andy Says:

RoI needed the xp gains tweaked in a patch post launch to enable people to hit the cap by questing which is mainly the reason I’m curious about their definition of size.

The bag should be account wide not by character. That would get expensive real quick.

Indeed, if it was 495tp pre character then I’d have to pay 4455tp for characters on one server alone. 995 seems a lot, and is a lot, if you focus on one or two character but if you have a lot then it’s far nicer looking.

There is a post back in January when they first announced RoR where Sapience says the landmass is twice as large as Moria, the content (quests, epics new items, ect) is larger than RoI.

Very annoyed over the bag. I’ve lived this long without it and can continue to do so. This smacks of the stupidity that is ‘enhanced wallet’. The enhanced wallet should have been free or at the very least (and less popular opinion than free) cheaper. To charge almost double the price for what was previously 495 TP speaks of greed. It’s bad enough we’re all gouged on the vault additions.

    Keep this in mind:

    09/27/2011: Rise of Isengard launches
11/25/2011: RoI quest pack is 50% off in the web store
12/26/2011: RoI quest pack is 50% off in the web store again
04/05/2012: RoI quest pack is 20% off in the in-game store
05/07/2012: RoI expansion packs are all 50% off in the web store

My point being, if you think that $70 (or $40) is too much for RoR (or you’re waiting to see what the mounted gameplay is actually like), and you’re not champing at the bit to rush in Rohan (like me, who hasn’t even hit 75 with my main), you can probably get the QP for significantly cheaper in a couple of months. If you want the expansion for cheap, though, you might have to wait 6-8 months.

There is no guarantee there will be a sale like that for this expansion, my suggestion is for folks to get the preorder if you like the cosmetics and buffs, elsewise wait till launch. I think there will be a huge disappointment in what it offers, perhaps that is why its cheaper. For my part I am passing on the whole thing, might get it on down the road but not going to invest any more money into the game for a while.

If you put the expansion (any tier) in your shopping cart, you can then buy TP for 40% off. Makes it slightly more palatable, but still insufficient to make me preorder.

    • Stueyg Says:

You only need to add the expansion to you cart, then remove it again – there is no need to buy the expansion to get the discount. The 40% discounted price shows on the buy points screen (it does depend on which expansion pack you add to your cart).
I just got 5000 TP for $29.99 on its own. I’ll wait to see which expansion pack is worth buying, but will probably end up getting the base one, as the points I just got will more than cover the 6th bag which is the only extra I feel any need for.

I am happy about the 6th bag being account wide, but I really doubt any of these items will be in my budget for quite some time. Shame, really. Seems like some really neat additions.

Question about the Crystal of Remembrance… It adds an extra major slot, but doesn’t add points to spend does it ? So what’s the point ? I see very very little interest in that, except maybe to add a major leg. then turn it into a stat (agility, will, might etc.) legacy (and not spending any points in that legacy, which gives a 30ish base bonus…)… What do you think about it ?
