CSTM Live Show Changes & Player Suggestions

October 8, 2012

Middle-earth Network now has a video stream and CSTM has moved from playing on the MEN Radio station to their new TV format. We’re new at this and wanted to make the changes clear as well as give you a place to give us your ideas for the new format.

What is Changing?

The only thing changing is the live show format. We are moving from audio only feed to a video feed.

The downloaded podcast is not changing at all. It will continue to be posted on Sunday evening as an audio download through the same channels you currently getting it.

How do I listen live / participate?

Watching the Video Stream

Merric HeadThe video feed is hosted by MEN’s livestream channel. A livestream account is not required to view the stream and listen to us live.

We have embedded the live stream video to our web site at http://casualstrolltomordor.com/live/.

All you need to do is visit that site and hit play. When our show starts, it should start up (sometimes a refresh is required).

Joining Live Chat

For chat we are not using livestream’s chat (that is why a livestream account is not required).

We are using the chat rooms provided by the MEN site. A Middle-earth Network account is required if you want to use the chat rooms. Simply log in and it should be good for you to start using.

The chat room is embedded on the same live page as the video stream. http://casualstrolltomordor.com/live/

Joining us In-Game

Since we now have a video element and you can join us on Landroval to see yourself on the live stream and join us in game while we live broadcast!

We have been announcing the location of these sort of last minute and we’d like to get more organized with this whole dealie but we need some help.

Give Us Your Suggestions

The new video stream is brand new for us and honestly, we’re not super awesome adding a new third channel to monitor during the live show so we are looking for your suggestions on how to improve and make it fun!

What sort of things can we do in-game together that would make the in-game gathering a fun party event each week?

Keep in mind we want to keep the location to places where players of all levels can get to with relative safety but we want to have fun at the same time!

Let us know your ideas. Even if your idea doesn’t involve a party – like you want to see Merric die in a skirmish while trying to carry a conversation with me – we want to hear all your ideas!

We are eager to take this new outlet we’ve been given and make it a solid piece of the CSTM live show!

I don’t know if it is just me or if others are affected by this but I can not join your chat. I have a MEN account and if I go to any of the other middle earth network sites I am considered logged in and the chat bar at the bottom works fine. For CSTM, all I get is the exclamation icon which says I have to Login or Register but when I try to log in, I get redirected from http://casualstrolltomordor/wp-login.php
to http://cstm.mymiddleearth.com/wp-login.php and if I enter my username and password, I get an error saying ‘You attempted to access the “Casual Stroll to Mordor” dashboard…’ indicating that it is trying to log me in to edit the site (which fails as it should) when it should just be logging me in as a user.

Having pretty much the same issue. Can be logged into MEN, click on the FEatured Partners pulldown and click on the CSTM link there, takes me to http://casualstrolltomordor.com/ but shows me as needing to “Login”. Clicking on “Login” redirects same as with Garan above but I get logged into my own dashboard page since I am allready considered loged in at MEN.

No way possible for me to bring up the chat in lower right area, small yellow warning triangle showing saying I need to login or register. I can go directly back to MEN via the main link in the bar and am again considered as loged in. Baffling to be sure. I’ve tried everything at my end that I can think of doing.

Only thing I can figure is that it’s somehow not creating the cookie correctly since it involves 2 different urls??? http://casualstrolltomordor.com/ vs. http://cstm.mymiddleearth.com/

I’ve changed the link under Featured Partners to go to http://casualstrolltomordor.com. If this happens again, try deleting the cookies for casualstrolltomordor.com, deleting your browser cache and closing/re-opening your browser. Usually deleting the cache and/or the cookie file for the page you’re on seems to “reset” the chatbar cookies.

Thanks for all your efforts. I think I;ve got it fixed on my end now. I was missing one essential bit that was right in front of me.

I was pretty sure it was something to do with the “cookie”. For me, 99.9% of the time, I browse the web in “Private Browsing” mode (Firefox)as well as keeping tight control on scripts. And I almost always have 3rd party cookies turned off. Turning off “Private” mode and allowing 3rd party cookies for CSTM’s site seems to have solved the problem. Also solved the problem of my Avatar not showing when I post on CSTM.

Garan, if you’re still watching this for a solution, check your browser settings as noted above. 3rd party cookies I think is the critical element.

This comment isn’t directly to the point either, but I’d like to say how much I am enjoying the cstm chat channel on Landroval. Even if there is little Fellowship Walk stuff going on at a given time, there are always a few folks on the channel; it is a much nicer place to “chat” than glff is most of the time. After the walk is over I hope folks keep using it.

No idea when you hosted this week’s episode, but it sure wasn’t at 930pm EDT. Did I miss the memo?

We started a bit late due to technical difficulties, but we were streaming around 9:45 PM. Note, that the best way to watch us now is through the casualstrolltomordor.com/live page or through the livestream app.

I did post up on both facebook and twitter about the delay. If you don’t follow us there, those are the best places to check if we aren’t running at 9:30.

      • Gliredhel Says:

Hm — I did check twitter, but I must have missed it. Thanks you two, I’ll be sure to use that more faithfully.

First time you did the video stream I have to admit I almost gave up trying to get the stream and into chat. 3am was a bit late to be jumping through hoops registering (again) with MEN.

Saturday’s show was odd as halfway through my chat window vanished from the streaming page, and the rest of cstm, so took a wee while but eventually ended up listening and chatting via different tabs.

Ingame chat sounds like a good idea but for some odd reason the stream gets incredibly laggy when lotro is running. Not an issue if I’m streaming stuff from twitch. The option to listen only via itunes and chat ingame would be great, why watch when you can be there in the pixellated flesh.

Other than that it’s great that you want to do something other than a just another video podcast with facecams. Sometimes podcasts get distracted from their original podcastyness by having to find visual content.

One week you should have everyone make a hobbit toon and run around in bree slaping people or have everyone play a game of hide and seek in bree.

the time of the chicken is coming…
(do the worms, Shire, other Shire then take up Trollshaws one and run around, think it was 3 or 4 hours)
