Frequently Asked Steam Questions

Do I have to play LOTRO through steam if I buy this pack through the steam store?

Short answer is you do not have to use steam to buy this from steam. Keep your current installation and just apply the code to your account.

After purchasing LOTRO will most likely start to download but you can pause it to prevent a second LOTRO download. Go to your Steam Library, highlight LOTRO and on the far right side you’ll see a link to “CD Key”. Copy the key and then login to myaccount.turbine.com to apply it to your account.

Do I get all the same features of those who buy in the LOTRO Market?

Yes. The code credits your account with the exact same expansion pack with all the same features. You will also get the quest packs when they are released included in your Rohan purchases.

I hope they do an in-game sale as well. I’d like to pick up some war-steed dye packs, but definitely not at the regular prices.

I’m pretty sure you’ve done your research Goldenstar, but can you confirm that the 50% off sale of Riders of Rohan from the Lotro marketplace is indeed for all editions? It’s not that I don’t trust your word, it’s that I don’t trust Turbine.

It is not stated as such (all we got is that tiny banner) but it did link to the expansions page on the LOTRO Market.

They did this for Isengard last year though so I’m fairly confident that it will be all editions. Hopefully I’m right!

I purchased the legendary yesterday at 50% off, so yes, LOTRO Market has them all at half-off. Paying $5 less than the pre-order Basic and getting the account-wide 6th bag is worth it. :D

I’m right there with ya… my wife wasn’t able to take advantage of the “determine your discount” sale (just shy of points, and not quite to rohan yet) and now she’s springing for the Legendary Edition.

… i’m so jealous. curse my impetuousness! haha

I’ll probably ask this in the Turbine account subforum later as well, but just in case some of you may know the answer: I already have the Mines of Moria expansion and the Mirkwood questpack, both purchased with TPs from the LOTRO Store. Does that mean I won’t be able to activate the Triple Pack if I purchase it from Steam? In other words, I am only interested in the Rise of Isengard portion of that pack (and with the 50% off deal it’s still cheaper than getting the TPs to purchase the expansion from within the Store), but I’m not sure if the code will be valid for me since I already have 2 of the 3 items included. Anyone knows the answer?

This would be a similar situation:
Imagine someone, already owning Evendim or Moria, or Lothlorien wanting to buy Riders of Rohan Heroic Edition (Evendim, Moria, Lothlorien included) instead of the Basic Edition just for the 1000 extra TPs.

If enter the new code into the standard Turbine account management (webinterface), then I cannot imagine, that the code would be invalid in either case. Each code should just enable certain content. It shouldn’t really matter, if you enable a part of the content twice.

I have not tested, though, but I would not hesitate to buy any code I am interested in.

Oh sorry, Riders of Rohan Base Edition also comes with 1000 TPs.
Then replace “1000 TPs” in my above post by “Hauberk of the Eastemnet (cosmetic chest piece) and Title: Friend of the Mark”

Yes you can still buy the triple pack. It will simply apply the pieces you don’t already own and ignore the rest.

To obtain the Steam product Code for the ‘Steam Starter Pack’ was not so intuitive. Myabe as I was using the Mac Steam app?

    I brought it no problem via the Steam Store web site and received an email stating;
“To play your new games, just launch the Steam application on your computer and log in using your Steam account name: xxxxxxxx. Your games will be available in Steam on the “Library” tab.”
    However nothing appeared in the Library. I logged out of the account and back in but nothing. In the end after looking around I went back the the Steam Store page for the offer;

    store.steampowered.com/app/213174

and hit the ‘Play Now’ button. This then prompted an install and download which then added it to my Library and I could then Pause it and Right Click > View CD Key. Copied across to MyTurbine which worked.

    Hello

I read in the article “The Turbine Web Store is a one day only sale on Black Friday, November 23rd.” but when one goes to mylotro.com under featured content> “50% off Riders of Rohan” it says “November 23-26″.

I was assuming that such an offer would be for the Black Friday only, but it seems to be through the weekend too?

That banner image is from their newsletter (which is also linked so you can see it too). It’s the only information I had on this sale at the time of this article and it only mentioned the 23rd as you can see. It would be great if it lasted until the 26th.

I can only report on the information Turbine shares and so far their “information”on this sale has been two different images with no other details.

        hello :)

My email settings are “to not receive the lotro newsletter” so I didn’t see it there, only on mylotro.com banner. I understand though, better be safe than sorry :)

I guess we will have to wait for turbine to give more details on this one. I do hope it lasts through the weekend, would be awesome and more convenient for us Europeans who live in a different time zone.

Thank you very much for keeping this blog always up to date, you are an amazing source of information :)

I don’t know what you are referring to? You apply the codes to your existing account either way you purchase (steam or lotro market).

I was referring from the Lotro Market but I purchased it. The problem was that when you go to buy it from the lotro market there is a field saying New Account Information. I thought that the expansion would install on a new account but actually it creates an account of Digital River which handles your transaction to turbine.

BTW Thank you very much for doing this beacuse if I didn’t like you on facebook I wouldn’t probably realize that the expansion is for 50% sale

The Steam Starter Pack is available for $15. It includes North Downs, Evendim, Misty Mountains (1900 TP cost of the quest packs), an exclusive mount, +25% XP until level 65 with some token and 1000 TP. It seems like a really good deal. Note: I WANT to buy all quest packs, although I know that I already have enough. I just like questing, especially in a game like LOTRO.

I already have the Mithril Edition and Mines of Moria. Can I apply the Steam Starter Pack key to my account? It seems like a really good (not to mention the cool mount) deal but I don’t want to spend $15 and then find out that I am stuck with an unusable key.

Yes, see above in the thread how it’s done.

The sale is still life (as of 27. Nov 2012, 13:22 UTC+1 (middle-european time)), which should be 7 AM, EST.

Apparently Digital River which runs the Lotro Market for turbine does have issues with blocking accounts somewhat haphazardly if they are foreign as ‘security risks’.
Looks like Im on the naughty step.

Shame Steam arent selling the Legendary edition, 50% off is a good buy.

Wasn’t going to pay 70 bucks so I decided to wait. This sale was sooner than I expected. I was skeptical about mounted combat turns out its not bad once you get the hang of warmount. But all the added mount items and talent trees I haven’t figured out yet. I guess I don’t get the bonus pocket item for 25%xp with this sale. It’s ok by me since I’m more of a casual player. No instances means no hurry to get to 85.

You mean like buy it wish cash dollars (without credit cards / paypal or other payment options)?? All the options above are paying with real money (not turbine points) if that is your question.

You’ve posted quite a bit in quick succession. I think you need to slow down and read the post. Pretty much all you are asking could be answered by reading.
