War-steed Cosmetics

Customize your War-steed with unique appearances! Pick and choose various pieces, or purchase a set, to create a truly unique looking steed to ride into battle.

Store Locations:
War-steeds -> Appearances -> Set Bundles
War-steeds -> Appearances -> Tail
War-steeds -> Appearances –> Accessories
Levels: 75+
395-995
316-796

CSTM RECOMMENDATION: Cosmetics are important (to me) but I can understand that if TP is limited, this isn’t going to be the first thing you’ll go for. That’s why this gets a “meh” but seriously folks, this stuff is important (to me). The bummer though is these items are per character purchases so you best buy them on the character who wants to use them.

War-steed Colour and Equipment Dyes

Permanently unlock Steed Colours and Dyes to enhance your steed!

  • Unlock each pack permanently on your character!
  • Customize your War-steed down to the tail colour!

Store Location: War-steeds → Appearances → War-steed Colours
Levels: 75+
595
476

CSTM RECOMMENDATION: To be clear, this is something a lot of players have asked for and will probably be very excited for. In reality though it’s just stuff to change your horsey’s color and not really essential to your fighting prowess.  But I am always of the mind that it is better to look awesome and worry about the rest later. The bummer though is these items are per character purchases so you best buy them on the character who wants to use them.

War-steed Legacies

Upgrade your War-steed, enhance abilities, make your skills more powerful, & customize War-steed Legendary Bridles for your style of play!

Store Location: War-steeds→ Legendary Items→ War-steed Legacies
Levels: 75+
795
636

CSTM RECOMMENDATION: The general consensus I got from talking with other players on this is pretty much not needed. Mounted combat is pretty strong and since there aren’t currently and mounted combat end game bosses that would require careful tweaking of your war-steed LI’s this is really just a personal preference to buy or not.

War-steed Relics

Further upgrade your War-steed’s Legendary Bridles for your style of play!
*Delivers Sealed Bridles which you can deconstruct to retrieve various LI Relics, exclusive to your War-steed!

Store Location: War-steeds→ Legendary Items→ War-steed Relics
Levels: 75+
550
440

CSTM RECOMMENDATION: Same as the above. The general consensus I got from talking with other players on this is pretty much not needed. Mounted combat is pretty strong and since there aren’t currently and mounted combat end game bosses that would require careful tweaking of your war-steed LI’s this is really just a personal preference to buy or not.

Select Travel Mounts

Collect these historic LOTRO Travel mounts:
*Steed Of Minas Ithil
*Steed Of Bright Days
*Fleet-footed Goat
*Green Painted Skeleton Steed

Store Location: Travel & Housing -> Mounts -> Store Exclusive
Levels: 5+
1295-1495
1036-1196

CSTM RECOMMENDATION: These items for sale do not come with a war-steed cosmetic but they are 68% speed 250 morale travel mounts. I put links above to see the screenshots we’ve posted of these steeds. They are per character purchases.

    I would be willing, as I think many would, to make a lot more purchases from the lotro store if I could see the benefits applied to all the character’s on the account. Turbine’s tendency to nickle and dime such a great and committed community is disheartening. People like to cite the hobby horse, but I think the premium wallet was the biggest insult.

    I’m half hoping for the next expansion that we might see a wardrobe function added for the horse cosmetics. The price of them outwith a sale is for me a cost that I’d put onto an account wide purchase and even on sale being per character it’s not something I’d look at. No reason not to do it other than to try and milk peoples wallets.

    And I still reckon they should allow horse dyes to be crafted by scholars. Crafting in lotro has been getting steadily weaker to the point where you have to wonder if they can actually be bothered doing anything practical with it. The ultra rare scroll crafts are just an injoke aimed at the stat junkies as there’s not really any content that demands the best of the best gear.

    Both dyes and wardrobe were ingame things prior to rohan so the move away from playerside benefit is more obvious.

    I’m normally a pretty big fan of cosmetics for my characters and their respective mounts. However, the TP prices for Warsteed accessories and dyes continue to confound me. If they were account-wide, I wouldn’t be nearly as annoyed. If you buy a full outfit from the store, you can dump each piece into your wardrobe, and it can be worn by every character. Not so for our butt-whooping horses. Until Turbine finds a similar system for Warsteeds, or holds a decent sale (as in 50% off or more…20% means nothing when the prices are that high already), I refuse to drop any TP for these items.

    Overall I love LOTRO and a big part of that is the cosmetics. I am a real garb-snob, and my wardrobe, shared storage, and vaults are largely maxed out due to storing cosmetics (I have multiple storage alts to hold them all).

    But having the cosmetics limited to the store and then jacking the prices to avaricious heights makes me see red. I’ve been a subscriber since the first year (though not launch), without interruption. I’ve pre-ordered every expansion at the top tier level.

    The MAIN new feature touted in RoR was the war steads and their accompanying cosmetic system. The in-game system is, frankly speaking, horse-shit unless you are willing to spend THOUSANDS of TP per character to get your war steads looking something akin to your travel steeds. As a nearly five-and-a-half-year VIP subscriber to LOTRO, I estimated that it would take me five-to-seven months worth of my VIP TP stipend per character to get their mounts kitted out in a manner comparable to the rest of their kit.

    I would balk at paying these prices if they were ACCOUNT-WIDE for all servers. But for a SINGLE-CHARACTER, I would only buy these items if their full price was dropped to 10-20% their current prices, maximum.

    As it is, I find the whole thing disheartening enough that every time they run a sale on anything related to war stead cosmetics that I consider canceling my sub for a month or two to cool off while I go play AoC or SWTOR.

    Has anyone else been unable to locate the Scroll of Finesse in the store? It doesn’t come up in searches and I can’t seem to browse my way to it either. Not that this is news.
