Poll: Thoughts on Store Exclusive Mount a Month

April 6, 2013

Weekly Poll

This week’s poll came from my own brain! Holy moly folks. I made my own poll. Anyway, Turbine certainly seems to be doing a Mount a Month now that the Dagorlad is available all April, the Steed of Nightwood back in March, and the Steed of the Khundolar in February. The question is just a simple gauge if you like this idea and if you will buy the store exclusive steeds. Feel free to use the comments below to share why you will or won’t be buying these steeds.

What are your thoughts on the new exclusive pony a month?

  • I don't buy store exclusive mounts. (61%, 402 Votes)
  • I might buy one or two I like. (33%, 220 Votes)
  • I must buy them all! Keep them coming! (3%, 22 Votes)
  • Other (Leave a comment) (3%, 20 Votes)

Total Voters: 664

(shrug) I like having the option there.

Yeah, that’s my feeling as well. Kinda like the class steeds. Most of them didn’t move me, but I grabbed the Captain steed anyway, because I have a Captain and that one was pretty decent.

So far, none of the store steeds have been in my wheelhouse, but if they keep up this rotation, one might be eventually.

I’m reminded of “Mr. Accessory” in the “Kingdom of Loathing”: the horses are for bleeding off any surplus TP a player might have and aren’t really game-breaking (if you don’t discuss relative speeds …).

I’m considerably more bothered at how Bree was remade to advertise horse skins. Animated horses everywhere (not one in the old taxi/reputation mount mold), all pawing and neighing and contributing to the slide-show effect I experience.

On your issue about Bree I raised the issue with Scarycrow during the update 9 testing when it was on Bullroarer and he said that the current War-steed looks are placeholders while new work is being done on the old horse models to replace them.

I would like it a lot better if they started offering War-steed appearance only options for the Store Only mounts. They could even keep the price really high IF they made it account wide bestowals. I rarely ever pull out an old style mount for my characters level 75+. Its only really doing practice festival runs, specific races and in Moria that I use older mounts. So why do I really want an new old style mount?

I used to, and then I determined that they’re a complete waste of TP.

I would probably buy them if they were like 500TP or something… 2000TP for a horse is WAY too much.

I agree with Bos, I’d love to own a few of these but at 2000tp or just under I simply can’t afford them, maybe one day Lilikate will get a hunters steed. I did like the one last time that dyed really nicely!

If turbine would offer the cosmetic sets separate from the travel mount i would be more inclined to buy them.

I used to try and collect all the mounts but honestly can’t keep up anymore, just can’t justify spending real money on it any more…

im always on the lookout for new outfit options. Love seeing a new look every month. I’ve bought victory and nightwood, and i picked up steed of the night because I’ve wanted it for a good while. Not to into the dagorlad look though. i suppose if i ever get though I’ll have a lot of fun mixing and matching the pieces

It’s interesting to note that currently in this poll, 3% buy most of not all of the horses. I’ve read a couple articles about F2P profitability that said only a very small portion of the user base has to be “big spenders” for a F2P game to be profitable. So in my view, rather than seeing the 3% as a very low number, I see that pushing this game towards profits. Of course, I’m not saying this game can survive on selling horses alone :)

I like seeing the new designs, and I may be tempted to purchase, as long as theyre on a good sale, still got a too hefty price tag for my liking. Although saying that, I felt flush and really fancied treating one of the Dwarfs, but the horse I fancied was stabled. So they lost out there.

Spitting out an expensive per character mount each month isnt a good PR tool.

If they have to do a monthly mount then it should be split to include a cosmetic only option. Not having it starts to make the company look kind of money rather than game focussed.

Worst thing is we can see how lacking some of the class mounts are in comparison. I still think the hunter steed was the best of the bunch and they declined rapidly after that.

I might consider buying one if the store-mounts would be account-wide, not per character..

If the price were ~500-700 TP just for the warsteed cosmetic sets and it were account wide, I’d probably have spent a few thousand TP by now. As it stands, I just can’t justify spending 20 bucks on a single character’s mount just for cosmetic purposes. If they lowered the price, I know a lot of people would let those TP flow more freely.
