For the past month or so I’ve been challenging myself to make something special for a family meal once a week and we’re calling them our Hobbit Meals.
This has actually nothing to do with Tolkien’s stories or recipes relating to Middle-earth, just meals that are new and a bit more special than what we typically eat.
I have been posting pictures with recipes of my trials on our social media but I thought, hey why not share it on the blog? Sure it’s not gaming but who doesn’t wanna try some Hobbit Meals? Plus now I will have it in a space that’s searchable. It’s a win-win really.
So just to be clear. This is not gaming related. It’s just a silly food thing I’m sharing so feel free to skip if you are like one of those skinny elf types who thinks lembas is all the rage.
Grilled Cheese with Tomatoes and Maple-Bacon Jam
The bacon jam here was what was kind of crazy new for us especially since we were going to be making it from scratch. The recipe actually calls for Bourbon but we didn’t have any so we just omitted that ingredient and made Maple-Bacon Jam.
After making the bacon jam we assembled the sandwiches. Another small victory for me personally was that two of the items in this recipe came from my garden! No, we don’t have a bacon tree but the tomatoes and parsley I grew myself. Trust me, it’s a big deal for me. I’m not great with plants.
This was the most amazing grilled cheese sandwich I have ever put in my mouth. We only stopped making them because we ran out of bread!
