#LOTRO: 50% Off on Expansion Packs

November 27, 2013

LOTRO, LOTRO Store

LOTRO is having a Black Friday special of 50% off all expansion packs except for the latest expansion, Helm’s Deep that just recently released. Sales are good until December 2, 2013.

Also don’t miss the double bonus points sale currently available. This also runs until December 2nd.

LOTRO Market

bf_enExpansion Quad Pack $19.99

Contains four of the previous LOTRO expansions:

  • Mines of Moria
  • Siege of Mirkwood
  • Rise of Isengard
  • Riders of Rohan

Riders of Rohan Base Edition $9.99

For levels approximately 75-85. The description doesn’t mention it but it should also include the Rohan Instance Cluster. Mounted Combat is free for all but buying Rohan will unlock the heavy and light mounted combat trait lines.

Bonus Items:

  • The Steed of the Eastemnet (Travel Mount)
  • Title: Friend of the Mark

Rise of Isengard Base Edition $9.99

For levels approximately 66-75. Includes three new regions, the Draigoch 24-man raid. The description doesn’t mention it but it should also include the Isengard instance cluster.

Bonus items:

  • A Rohirrim Style Mount with a red coloured blanket and sun emblem
  • An in-game title – Guard of the Isen

Mines of Moria $9.99

For levels approximately 51-60. It includes 2 new character slots, the warden & rune-keeper classes. This expansion also includes seven full fellowship instances (Dark Delvings, Fil Gashan, Skumfil, The Sixteenth Hall, The Forges of Khazad-dum, The Grand Stair, and The Forgotten Treasury), and two 12-person raids (Filikul and The Vile Maw).

Siege of Mirkwood $4.99

For levels approximately 61-65. It will also include three 3-man instances, one 6-man instance and one 12-man raid.

Samwise Gamgee Starter Pack $6.99

This is normally $9.99 so this isn’t the full 50% off (only 30%). It doesn’t show any special “Black Friday Special” banner like the others so this could just be a price drop and not a sale but thought it worth mentioning anyway.

It includes:

  • The Bay Steed & Riding Skill
  • 4th Inventory Bag
  • Currency Cap

Steam

No sale on Steam yet although we did see the Steam starter and triple packs go on sale last year. It’s possible it’s actually waiting for Friday for the Black Friday sale. I’ll update this post if I notice a sale.

So Helm’s Deep won’t be for sale? :( Guess I won’t be buying HD anytime soon then…

I’m VIP, but I must say that the Samwise Gamgee Starter Pack looks like a must-have for FTP beginners. For a sale price of just $6.99, one apparently gets a (slow) permanent steed (but not the riding skill?), inventory bag #4, and gold-cap removal. Where was that when I was new and struggling?

The question that comes to mind when looking at these starter packs is has any of them offered close to the benefits of a month as VIP?

Obviously this assumes both that the rules for downgrading have not changed since I last did it, and the player is aware of how to maximize their month as a subscriber.

I suppose the play off is that the pack gives the same benefits to any characters created in the future VS larger benefits, but only to the characters you have right now.

Actually thinking about it, perhaps the new system makes the VIP option less valuable, as one of the big benefits was unlocking all trait slots.

At $10 I tended to argue going with a month of VIP (for $15, you get more of everything for existing characters. Just not for characters you might make in the future). At $7, I could understand trying to get by on Sam’s pack until you needed to unlock traits (although I don’t know how that changed with HD), fast travel, and possibly craft guild status.

I certainly beats buying the lowest TP pack to get premium status (I think they made the prices the same). I’m pretty sure you will grind well over 500 more TP in the next month simply due to the horse and extra space.

Amazing! I’ve been so confused about what to buy and whether or not I could afford it, the quad-pack is fantastically priced. Yoink!
